Tu is celebrated for his spectacular container and landscape compositions, where horticultural mastery meets artistic storytelling. His signature style is refined, emotionally resonant, and culturally rich, defined by bold creativity and a deep respect for nature. His living botanical installations consistently captivate audiences, transforming spaces into immersive, unforgettable experiences
Tu immigrated from Vietnam at the age of five, arriving in the United States without speaking a word of English. His family settled in Uptown Chicago, where they lived in a Section 8 housing community. Behind the building was an abandoned parking lot—what many saw as forgotten space, Tu saw as possibility.
As a child, he began cultivating seeds there purely for joy, transforming that neglected lot into his first garden. At just eight years old, he was already amending soil and growing his first crops of carrots, beets, cilantro, and mint.
Between the ages of ten and thirteen, Tu experimented with growing flowers, miniature fruits, and vegetables indoors under full-spectrum lighting. By fourteen, he amazed peers and mentors alike with his ability to propagate plants using advanced techniques such as rooting and micro-propagation (plant tissue cloning). Even before founding Bloom Designs Inc., Tu turned to plants and design as a grounding force in his life—something that would later define his career.
My passion for gardening is the fuel behind everything I create. While many people spend their lives searching for their purpose, I am grateful every day that I get to do what I love.
The most meaningful part of my work is seeing how my designs positively impact the lives of those who trust me with their homes and gardens. A flower in full bloom greets us without judgment, with pure sincerity. Its colors, textures, and fragrance connect us to something deeper—an uplifting force of nature that has inspired humanity across all cultures and generations.
